Perspective

Sunset on a Turkish air flight to Kampala

Do you ever wish for innocence again?
I do.
Do you ever wish you’d stayed young, 18, maybe 12 - free of life’s cares?
I do.
Sometimes I wish I could un-feel things, un-hear things, un-think things, un-see things.

Ah!! But life won’t let. Life grabs you like a big cuddly clawed bear, it flings you around, knocks every bone out of joint. The heart expands, emotions heighten with each new thrill, each new pain, each new pleasure, each new heartache.
You learn to trust less, you learn to forgive more, you learn to be more cautious, more committed, less patient, more forceful. You learn. You unlearn.

They say, “How are you?”
You think, “What do they want?”
They say, “I missed you”
You think, “What do I owe?”

You say, “I’m fine!”
They think, “What’s she not saying?”

It’s exhausting!

Look at the bright side.
There’s no bright side inside.
It’s dark this inside, gloomy this inside.
Longing for light - the soul source or sole source.
The sole source that rearranges, reassures, refreshes, reforms, reinvigorates, renews, restores, revives.
This little red, pulsating organ, that throbs within a cage needs to locate that soul source.
Rest.

Eh! But I can really be melancholic.

4th of July Fireworks

The city of Rockville put up a splendid show of 4th of July fireworks.

A good attempt at writing my name in the sky. They get  an A+ for effort :-)

Funny, Talkative and Deaf on the D.C Metro Commute

Girl Sings at Farragut North Metro
Today I had a conversation with the funniest, most talkative, deaf man I've ever met.
So I was minding my own business as usual, waiting for the train, when this guy walked passed me and suddenly turned around. He tapped my shoulder.

DG: Excuse me!
Me: (I turn)
DG: Where are you from?
Me: Uganda
DG: (Drops his hands - the sparkle in his eye deems - he was disappointed. He thought I was from Ghana.)
Me: You from Ghana?
DG: Yes! But I don't like Ugandans

I Want to Dance

When he says "May I have this dance"
I will gladly oblige

I want to get onto the dance floor and feel the rhythm in the soles of my feet
As it pumps to the beat of my heart
Takes me high into the realm of breathless allure
my body asks
my soul and my spirit thirst
More energy, more thrust, more shake,
Move, move, move
I want to hit that all time high under the spot light

He guides me with his strong arm
Moves his leg enough so I can lean on it
So I can turn on it
With his arm gentle but firm around my waist, I want to dance.

Dance till beads of sweat pour down my back leaving me drenched and exhilarated all at once.
I want to dance.

There's an applause 👏
I didn't realize the audience☺

Flower Petals: Beauty in Diversity

I saw these flower petals on a branch, on a tree by a neighbors house. A camera can’t quite capture this beauty like the naked eye but it tries. Looking at it, something came to mind: In God’s time, He makes all things beautiful. Each bud will have its moment in the sun.
Just because one has blossomed, just because one’s petals are luscious and spread out with royalty, just because one looks brighter and more captivating, doesn’t mean the other is any less beautiful. If we wait with diligence, and do what God has placed in our hands to do, our beauty will shine through.
The moment will come. You may not be bright pink but your dark red will captivate -  beauty in diversity. Bright pink contrasted with dark red, makes a rich blend.
For this photographers eye it does.

Moon and Venus Duet on First Night Sky of 2017

I looked up into the first night sky of 2017, the moon and Venus illuminated the sky. I thought of God's faithfulness, His beauty, His power. He is a good good father and an awesome artist too.

May God's light shine in your life to show you the way. May He lead you by day and by night.

Happy New Year!

Young Man In Pursuit of A Dream

His size matched his bass – large. They stood out. He played a calm tune. The white note at his side reads: “Please help send me to Interlochen Fine Arts High School”. In the heat of the afternoon a young man sweats in pursuit of a dream. Passion. Pursuit. Purpose. We live for this.

Butterflies in Fall

A Foreigner at Home

Intent on taking shots of Kamokya, I made my way to the roof top of Acacia Mall.
I asked one of the guards if I could take pictures and he politely agreed.
I went snap, snap, snap. Another angle, snap, snap, snap when I noticed from the corner of my eye 3 guards walking towards me.
Guard 1: excuse me madam, you are not allowed to take pictures here.
Me: But I just asked your colleague
Guard 1: Yah! But it's not allowed
Me: why?
Guard 1: it's not allowed. For security reasons.
Me: Ok, may I go then?
Guard 2: but madam, it seems you are not from around here.
I told him I was visiting but that I came from Serere.
He was visibly delighted.Turned out he was from Kumi.
"God loves me. To find a sister like you, my heart summersaults in my chest. You make me so proud". You've got to hear that phrase in Ateso to grasp his excitement. At this point his hands were all over the place ... on my wrist, on my shoulder ... I had to step away.
But I digress. This is a semi aerial view of Kamwokya with Gapco petrol station at the bottom. Lots of new buildings have sprouted in the area.

Little Artist

On a busy Tuesday morning, on Kampala road pavement, she huddles. Dust rises as people walk to and fro, it settles onto her mats of art but she is not frazzled. She covers her head with a hood to shut the world out but leaves a small window to her soul. It is written on one of her mats "My name is Nansubuga. My mother and father past away and now I stay with a relative who doesn't have enough money to care for me. Please buy my pictures they are only shs 5000/-. Thank you very much".

Once in a Blue Moon.

Here are some of the pictures I took of the 2015 blue moon. It's not blue in color but occurs once every 3 to 4 years.

CNN International Publishes A Photo I took From the Air

Sometimes the maalo (primitive curiosity) of sitting in an aeroplane and peering at the world with wide eyed wonder can lead to double joy. First, the joy of the experience and second the joy of sharing the experience. Woke up to this cute little tweet from CNN international:

Took this on my way back to the U.S from Vietnam. I had a 4 hour lay over at Narita Tokyo airport. I knew I would not visit the city so I made the most of it in the air. I'm glad I get to share it with the world.

Sunshine

Temperatures were in the 60's today.
We thawed and busked directly under the sun's rays.
Play grounds bustled with laughter and giggles of children previously deprived of their favorite activity.
Thank you Lord for the sunshine.

But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves. Malachi 4:2

Beautiful Scenes in Cold Temperatures
