Icicles/Kampala craze

Today I was literally sliding on the road, there was ice everywhere. It was like a large skating arena I tell you. Now if walking was hard, then imagine what was happening with the cars. Well most of them were parked at home but for those that dared to go out, they were skidding like crazy.
Mich's school was closed for the day and so were many others.
So the joke that when it snows Texans stay home is not funny, there are good reasons - not skidding and dying being one of them.
Check out Mich's collection of icicles, he was so excited I was given strict instructions to keep them in the freezer.


But meanwhile my fellow Kampalans', what is going on?
Can we take it easy?, this borders on embarrassing.
But I must give some credit, these guys are fast, over here no one is thinking of putting up sign posts or anything. We are just stressed, there is a lot to deal with, the weather, the economy, finding a church for the first family, you know, that sort of thing.

    Nanti that is why I love Ugandans- "they do not waste time" as they say. Can you remember the Clinton craze, we had kids being called Rwaclinton.

The Peeping Petticoat

Petticoats! Remember them? If you landed on this planet after the 90's you'll probably wonder what I refer to and no! it is not some fancy coat worn on top of a boob tube. Petticoats or half-slips are little nylon skirts worn as undergarments. Sound like the dark ages? Yeah, like who would wear extra clothes in the African heat? Probably explains why they were made of nylon and light cotton material. It was an essential item on every school girls shopping list next to Always and Vaseline. These skirts were everywhere; in suitcases, hanging up on a bathroom peg, sometimes they showed up on the clothes line outside; black and white - the two most preferred colors. You guys’, Heathrow airport is huge like this. It is oba the size of Soroti city ? You haven’t been to Soroti city? What’s your excuse? I will wait.
