Recruiting on campus

It's been a busy week for Sam with all these companies coming to the campus to make presentations about themselves. In previous weeks I walked on campus and people were dressed the casual campus style, jeans, t-shirts and snickers. This week there was an amazing transformation, dark blue suits with serious labels and shoes to match. Its a time for students to interview and interact with potential employers, find out if its the industry they would be interested in and what it takes to get there.
It's kinda two way, on the one hand the companies are beckoning them to come work for them and on the other hand the students are not only checking them out but also making their interests known. Those who know what industry and company they want have the task of leaving a lasting impression on the recruiters so that when the summer internships draw near you don't have to be introducing yourself. There were over sixty companies that came to the campus and it was a hard enough task scheduling the sessions into their already busy time tables. One certainly couldn't go for all sixty sessions but still had the pressure of chosing which ones to attend.

    So did you get picked for the dance thing? I LOVE Salsa - hey you can get Sam to come and dance with you! It's a great couples dance!
    No idea who Prancer is - will look into it. The only person I told about this blog was Olga - and she's not the type to leave nasty comments!

The Peeping Petticoat

Petticoats! Remember them? If you landed on this planet after the 90's you'll probably wonder what I refer to and no! it is not some fancy coat worn on top of a boob tube. Petticoats or half-slips are little nylon skirts worn as undergarments. Sound like the dark ages? Yeah, like who would wear extra clothes in the African heat? Probably explains why they were made of nylon and light cotton material. It was an essential item on every school girls shopping list next to Always and Vaseline. These skirts were everywhere; in suitcases, hanging up on a bathroom peg, sometimes they showed up on the clothes line outside; black and white - the two most preferred colors. You guys’, Heathrow airport is huge like this. It is oba the size of Soroti city ? You haven’t been to Soroti city? What’s your excuse? I will wait. If you have friends from Soroti and you’ve not visited their home… You know where I’m going with that, in fact, let me go there.
